When you multiply two numbers with any of them having ending zeroes, you cad do this:

1. Count the number of zeroes that are there at the end of both numbers. Say there are 3 all together.

2. Remove them from both numbers

3. Look at the remaining two numbers.

4. Multiply those numbers

5. Now put back the combined number of removed zeroes at the end of the answer in step 4

### wave length

More documents like this are at:  my words

7-Mar-08

How far apart two waves are, say in an ocean, is called the wave length. The farther apart they are, there is more space between them. That mean you see them that less often. So waves that are far apart will be happening less frequently. So higher wave length means low frequency. And lower wave length, or waves that are right next to each other, means higher frequency.

So a wave length and frequency are opposites and in a sense measure the same thing. How close waves are to each other.

### amplitude

More documents like this are at:  my words

7-Mar-08

amplitude usually mean "how much" or "how large" or "how big" or "how high". In the context of a wave it means "how tall" a wave is.

For example on your "tv" when you increase the "volume" you are increasing the "amplitude" of the sound waves that TV gies out.

This process of increasing amplitude is called amplification

### hertz

More documents like this are at:  my words

7-Mar-08

"Hertz" is a word or more accurately a "unit" used to measure the number of waves that pass you in 1 sec, say when you stand in an ocean on a beach.

If you say 20 hertz, then you are telling someone that there are 20 waves that passed you in 1 sec. It is unlikely that the ocean waves are that frequent but sound waves can be that frequent and all the way to 20,000 hertz or 20,000 waves per sec. Light waves are billions of waves every sec and they are typically measured in Giga Hertz. A giga is a billion like a kilo is a thousand.

### frequency

More documents like this are at:  my words

7-Mar-08

Frequency is a term used to describe waves in nature. There are waves in an ocean. Then there are sound waves and then there are light waves. All these waves rise and fall. Waves come and go. They don't stand still. You can see the picture below.

How quickly these waves come one after the other is called frequency. The more waves you see in a given amount of time, say in 1 minute or in 1 hour, then "more" is their frequency. So a frequency is the number of waves you see in 1 sec.

If you have a stop watch and you are standing in the sea you can count the number of waves that hit you in 1 sec. Then that number is the frequency of waves at that time of the day.

Homework

From the 4 presentations I heard today I learned many things about the heart. Somethings I didn't even know. For example, the heart can beat about 80 times per minute and if you take care of your heart then it can beat for 4 billion and 800 million times in 100 years. I also learned that your heart is in the middle of your chest. The blood from your lungs enters through the left side of your heart. The blood that the heart pumps to the lungs is oxygen. It also pumps oxygen to cells and brings carbon dioxide away from the cells. I almost forgot, the heart belongs to the circulatory system. Well that is many things I've learned. Bye!

The frequency of a wave is the number of waves that pass a point in a certain amount of time. Waves have certain properties. Frequency is one of the properties. Something that happens again and again is called "frequent". The more "often" somethigng happens the more "frequent" it is. So when waves in an ocean are more frequent or having more frequency they come one after the other very quickly.

The meaning of "transparent" is the ability of materials that transmit nearly all of the light rays that hit them. You can see through transparent material.

The meaning of "translucent" is the ability of materials that let some light rays in but scatter other rays. You can see that some light goes through translucent material.

The meaning of "absorption" is that it occurs when an object takes in or absorbs the light wave. After a light wave is absorbed it becomes a form heat energy.

To strongly disapprove. To strongly disagree. To say something is very wrong. For example a President of one country can condemn the actions that he/she doesn't approve that are taking place in another country. He/she may not have the authority to do anything directly but he/she can express strong disagreement by saying he/she would condemn such actions.
